THIOLATION OF FENUGREEK SEED POLYSACCHARIDE; UTILIZATION AS A NOVEL BIOMUCOADHESIVE AGENT IN DRUG DELIVERY

Objective: The objectives of the present work were to carry out thiol-modification (i.e., thiolation) fenugreek polysaccharide (FP) and assess synthesized thiolated product (TFP) as a mucoadhesive excipient in designing formulations (metronidazole gels metronidazole buccal discs). Methods: Extracted CG was thiol-modified via an esterification reaction by utilizing thioglycolic acid with acidic milieu (using hydrochloric acid). Metronidazole discs made extracted FP TFP (as excipients) prepared evaluated their biomucoadhesivity. Mucoadhesive containing 1%w/v using both (1% w/v), separately. compression method, where (100 mg) used excipients separately, along 50 mg lactose 25 PEG 4000. Results: yield 53.46% content thiol group found be 5.18 mmol group/g FP. FTIR analysis results indicated thiolation TFP. Both types (mucoadhesive discs) exhibited excellent improved ex vivo biomucoadhesion sustained pattern release over prolonged period. Conclusion: can agent biomucoadhesive systems for drug delivery.
